iPhone 15 overheating fix: Thermal imaging reveals whether iOS 17.0.3 update worked
If you are a new iPhone 15 owner who has been dealing with excessive heat, it is highly recommended to update to iOS 17.0.3 as soon as possible. Apple recently acknowledged several factors contributing to the overheating problem, including poorly optimized apps and a bug in iOS 17. To address these issues, Apple released iOS 17.0.3.
So, did this update resolve the overheating problem?
According to a thermal imaging test conducted by ZDNET, it appears that the iOS
update successfully addressed the cooling issues that plagued the iPhone 15.
Before installing the iOS 17.0.3 update, ZDNET conducted a
thermal imaging test on the iPhone 15. The test confirmed that the phones were
overheating, reaching temperatures above 100 degrees Fahrenheit when plugged
into a charger. At one point, the iPhone 15 Pro Max recorded a temperature of
107.1 degrees Fahrenheit, which is dangerously hot.
However, after installing the iOS 17.0.3 update, the iPhone
15's chassis significantly cooled down. ZDNET reported that the iPhone 15
"never got more than slightly warm to the touch." The phones
consistently stayed in the high 80s to low 90s temperature range, with a
maximum recorded temperature of 93.8 degrees Fahrenheit.
This is great news! And what about concerns that Apple's fix would
negatively impact the performance of the iPhone 15 Pro's powerful processor?
ZDNET confirms that there was "little or no variance" in the speed or
responsiveness of the iPhone 15. Other tech outlets have also corroborated
these findings, stating that iOS 17.0.3 does not affect the processor's
performance.
Moreover, for those worried that the new titanium build of
the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max contributed to the overheating issues, ZDNET
notes that both device models provided a cooler experience after the upgrade,
dispelling such concerns.
The specifics of how Apple addressed the overheating problem and its underlying cause remain unclear. Additionally, it is difficult to determine the extent of the issue's prevalence. However, a survey conducted by 9to5Mac revealed that a significant 57 percent of the outlet's readers experienced overheating problems with the iPhone 15 prior to the iOS update. Users reported occurrences of overheating during device setup, normal use, and even while charging.
